🌿 Duckweed – Natural Floating Plant for Aquariums & Ponds
Description:
Duckweed is one of the easiest and fastest-growing floating plants you can keep. Its tiny round leaves spread quickly across the surface, creating a lush green cover that provides shade and shelter for fish, shrimp, and fry. Duckweed is excellent at absorbing excess nutrients, helping to reduce algae growth and improve overall water quality.
This versatile plant is suitable for aquariums, ponds, and shrimp tanks. It thrives in a wide range of conditions, requires very little care, and can be easily scooped or thinned out when it grows too thick. Perfect for natural-style setups and bioactive systems.
Key Features:
Fast-growing floating plant
Provides shade and natural cover
Great for shrimp and fry tanks
Helps reduce algae by absorbing excess nutrients
Easy to grow and care for
Care Requirements:
🌡️ Temperature: 15–30°C
💡 Light: Low to high
💧 Water: Freshwater, still or slow-moving
Growth Rate: Very fast
⚠️ Important Note:
Duckweed is not recommended for people who run a large number of tanks, as it can become almost impossible to keep contained. However, in my experience, it is quite easy to manage when you only have 3–4 tanks. This is a plant you need to be sure you want, as it can be very hard to fully remove once established. For smaller collections, though, the benefits far outweigh the negatives.
