Gold Leopard Ramshorn Snail
Gold Leopard Ramshorn Snails – Spotted Beauty Meets Practical Clean-Up Crew
Gold Leopard Ramshorn Snails (Planorbella spp.) are a stunning and unique variety of ramshorn snail, easily recognized by their translucent golden shells with dark leopard-like spots. Their distinctive appearance makes them a striking feature in any freshwater aquarium, while their algae-eating habits and peaceful nature make them a functional and low-maintenance clean-up crew member.
These snails thrive in planted and shrimp tanks, where they feed on biofilm, soft algae, leftover food, and decaying plant matter. Their slime trails also provide a constant food source for baby shrimp, helping improve shrimplet survival rates. Hardy, adaptable, and beginner-friendly, Gold Leopard Ramshorns are perfect for aquarists looking to combine beauty with utility.
They can even be cultured as live food for puffers, loaches and I’ve found my Kribensis love them.
Key Features:
✔️ Beautiful gold shell with leopard-like pattern – highly decorative
✔️ Active algae and biofilm grazer, reduces tank waste
✔️ Perfect for shrimp and planted tanks – safe with delicate species
✔️ Beginner-friendly and hardy in a range of conditions
✔️ Slime trails support baby shrimp nutrition and growth
Care Tips:
🌡️ Water Temperature: 18–28°C (64–82°F)
📏 Tank Size: Minimum 10 litres
🥦 Diet: Biofilm, soft algae, leftover food, blanched vegetables, calcium-rich supplements
💧 Water Conditions: pH 6.5–8.0, moderate hardness for shell health
Important Notes:
Gold Leopard Ramshorn Snails are hermaphroditic and capable of reproducing rapidly when overfed. To prevent overpopulation, feed sparingly and avoid excessive waste buildup. These snails help maintain a balanced ecosystem but still require proper tank care and regular maintenance.
Not recommended in shrimp and mystery snail breeding set ups as they will smother the food and not let shrimp get to it leading to overfeeding and overpopulation, for mystery snails they will chew and scratch up the shell of your mystery snails.
Eco Warning:
Never release aquarium snails or eggs into natural waterways. Dispose of extras responsibly to protect local ecosystems.
Bring elegance and efficiency into your tank with Gold Leopard Ramshorn Snails—an eye-catching, peaceful, and practical addition to your clean-up crew!
