Brown Rams Horn Snail
Brown Ramshorn Snails – Easy-Care Clean-Up Crew for Freshwater Aquariums
Brown Ramshorn Snails are small, spiral-shelled freshwater snails that make a great addition to any peaceful aquarium setup. These hardy invertebrates are excellent algae grazers and scavengers, feeding on biofilm, uneaten food, decaying plant matter, and soft algae on glass and decor. Their attractive brown, coiled shells and calm nature make them ideal for community tanks, planted aquariums, and breeding setups.
Brown Ramshorn Snails are particularly useful in nano tanks or breeding tanks, where their gentle movements and small size minimize disruption to fish. They're easy to care for and breed readily in suitable conditions, making them a great option for beginners and experienced aquarists alike.
They can even be culture as live food for puffers, loaches and my Kribensis absolutely love them as well.
Key Features:
✔️ Effective algae and biofilm eater, helps reduce tank maintenance
✔️ Hardy and adaptable, great for beginners
✔️ Peaceful and compatible with shrimp, fish, and other snails
✔️ Ideal for planted tanks and nano aquariums
✔️ Provides a natural food source for shrimplets via slime trails
Care Tips:
🌡️ Water Temperature: 18–28°C (64–82°F)
📏 Tank Size: Suitable for tanks as small as 10 litres
🥦 Diet: Biofilm, algae, leftover food, blanched vegetables, and calcium-rich supplements
💧 Water Conditions: pH 6.5–8.0, moderate hardness preferred for shell health
Important Notes:
Brown Ramshorn Snails are hermaphroditic and can reproduce quickly in the presence of abundant food. To prevent overpopulation, avoid overfeeding and maintain good tank hygiene. Not recommended for shrimp breeding set ups as they will smother food for shrimp and over populate also not recommended to be kept in mystery snail breeding set ups either as they will chew and scratch their shells.. While they’re an excellent natural clean-up crew, they still require supplemental feeding and should not be added to solve tank imbalances, as this may increase bio-load.
Eco Warning:
Never release aquarium snails or their eggs into the wild. Dispose of excess snails or eggs responsibly to protect native ecosystems.
Add a few Brown Ramshorn Snails to your aquarium for a peaceful, low-maintenance addition that supports tank cleanliness and shrimp fry development!
