Juvenile Albino Kribensis (Pelvicachromis pulcher ‘Albino’) – Live African Dwarf Cichlid Australia

Add a unique touch of elegance and personality to your aquarium with our Juvenile Albino Kribensis, a striking West African dwarf cichlid known for its pale, creamy-white body, subtle pink and yellow highlights, and captivating behaviour. Sold as juveniles, these Albino Kribensis are perfect for aquarists wanting to watch their fish grow and develop their distinctive coloration over time.

Albino Kribensis are hardy, adaptable, and thrive in community or species tanks when kept with compatible fish. Originating from slow-moving streams, creeks, and small waterways in West Africa, the water they are used to is softer and more neutral than the hard, high-pH conditions required by many African rift lake cichlids. Their care requirements are therefore closer to American dwarf cichlids, and they flourish in moderately soft water with neutral to slightly acidic pH.

Renowned for their peaceful temperament, Albino Kribensis are excellent community fish. During breeding, however, they become highly protective and extremely dedicated parents. Observing their care is truly fascinating — parents will escort their fry on “field trips” around the tank in search of food, shaking to warn the fry if a perceived threat approaches, causing them to retreat to their cave or substrate. A larger aquarium is recommended if breeding pairs are kept in a community setup.

Care & Tank Requirements

🌡️ Temperature: 24–28°C
💧 Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5; soft to moderately hard water
📏 Tank Size: Minimum 60 litres (larger recommended for pairs or communities)
🍽️ Diet: Omnivorous – quality pellets, frozen foods, live foods, and occasional vegetable matter
🪨 Setup Tips: Provide caves (coconut shells, rockwork, driftwood), sand or fine gravel substrate, and planted areas for shelter and natural behaviour

Temperament & Compatibility

Albino Kribensis are generally peaceful but may become territorial during breeding. Best kept with calm community fish such as tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, and other non-aggressive species in a large, heavily planted tank. Avoid housing with aggressive or boisterous tank mates.

If you are interested in breeding Albino Kribensis, it is recommended to start with a group of 4–6 juveniles, as they are still too young to sex with certainty. This increases the likelihood of ending up with a male and female pair, allowing natural pairing as they mature, which usually results in stronger pair bonds and reliable breeding behaviour.

NOTE: This is an example of a mature male, juveniles will not be this brightly colours with elongated fins upon arrival but within a short time will mature. Currently I do not have an Albino mature female but they express much more vibrant colouration especially on the belly area and more yellow throughout with a light pinkish main body colour.
